ABSTRACT: THE ROLE OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

This research aims to: 1) evaluate the impact of corporate governance practices on business performance; 2) analyze the role of board diversity in decision-making; and 3) assess the influence of ethical standards on corporate reputation. A survey research design is chosen to gather comprehensive data on corporate governance practices. Using Taro Yamane’s formula, a sample size of 330 respondents, including board members and corporate governance experts, is determined. Abuja, with its regulatory focus, is selected as the location. The survey achieves a reliability coefficient score of 0.87. Findings reveal that effective corporate governance enhances business performance, improves decision-making processes, and enhances stakeholder trust. Board diversity and ethical standards play crucial roles in shaping corporate reputation and sustainability. The study recommends that businesses prioritize transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior to strengthen corporate governance practices and drive long-term business success.
